Jane Danko was born in Texas, USA, on the Banks of the Sabine River, next to the swamplands that unite Texas and Louisiana. From her early childhood she was fascinated by the allegories and metaphors embedded in nursery rhymes and fairy tales, always asking questions about hidden meanings, never content to dwell on the surface of the words. This curiosity about deeper meanings and realities led her to a lifelong exploration of mythologies, symbols, and phenomena that transcend the natural order. Since the year 2000, Jane has made her home in Galicia, Spain, where, amid the rich Galician heritage of myth and symbol, she has continued to explore in her work the timeless and universal themes that, although not so easily articulated, surely exist in our collective unconscious, because even being unfamiliar and unknown, when we see or hear them, we instantly recognize them as something that connects us to one another, and all of us to the beyond.
In Houston, Texas, she wrote critical reviews of visual art and performance for Houston Art Scene, later assuming the positions of Performance Editor, Managing Editor, and then Executive Editor. For The New Art Examiner (Washington, D.C.), she served as Texas editor. She is the author of When Angels Sing, Lilith, and Weddings of the Spiral, in addition to one-of-a-kind and limited edition handmade books. Currently, she is a professor of English at the University of La Coruña, Ferrol campus (Spain).
